About us

The Evangelical Lutheran Parish of St. Gertrude is a fast developing Church with emphasis on mission activity because we believe that only by mission work is the Gospel spread among nations.

We, like the first disciples of Jesus Christ, go to people who are in need and starving for the Word of God, whose burden of sins prevent them from seeing the Loving God, their Redeemer and Savior.

Evangelical Lutheran Parish of St. Gertrude is:

- free in Christ;

- rooted in the Scriptures and the Lutheran Confessions;

- working to fulfill Christ's Great Commission to go and make disciples of all nations.

St. Gertrude Lutheran is a part of the greater body of Christ. We have great respect for the reality that the church is where the people of God gather together around Word and Sacrament, where the church becomes a concrete reality for God's people.

We thoroughly keep the 500 years old traditions of the Lutheran Church, but at the same time we are a dynamically developing Church following the Covenant of our Heavenly Father.

You are welcome to take a look at our ministry and missions and become our coworkers in the Lord's Vineyard.

St. Gertrude Parish not only gathers together to praise our Lord Jesus Christ for everything He has done for us, we also follow the words of our Lord as He said: “Peace to you! Just as the Father sent me forth, so I send you” (John, 20:21), and “Go, therefore, and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe everything that I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you all the days until the end of the age.” (Matt, 28:9-20)

We go everywhere our Lord sends us to preach His Holy Word, to tell people the wonderful story about the Son of God who took our sins away, gave His life for us giving the most precious gift in the world – eternal life with Him in Heaven. Presently we have three ministry projects: Clean Water for Kids, Women's Prison Ministry and Ministry in Orphanage for Homeless children. We thank our Lord Jesus Christ that He is sending us as His disciples to the people who need the Word of Comfort most!

Clean Water for Little Kids

Clean Water for Kids

Dirty water

Water sustains life, health and growth of humans, animals, and plants. Access to safe water is a daily crisis faced by a billion of the world’s most vulnerable people — a crisis that threatens life and destroys livelihoods on a devastating scale. It claims more lives than any war, terrorism, and natural disasters, yet it does not make media headlines, nor rally concerted international action. This is a quiet and powerful crisis that is killing and keeping a billion human beings in the cycle of poverty. More than half of these individuals are women and girls.

Poverty is inevitable without clean water. One can’t stay healthy without it. Students who suffer from water borne illness can’t stay in class. They miss out on the chance to learn, and the cycle of poverty continues. Poor health leads to poor productivity, which leads to poor earnings, barely enough to pay for healthcare, as one gets sick often from drinking unsafe water. Those under the age of five are the most vulnerable.

At Clean Water For Kids we are addressing this most basic of needs by helping deprived communities acquire safe, clean water to the kids to help them survive.

We do our best to provide these little Gifts of God with clean water they lack. We raise money among people whose hearts are touched with God's love and compassion to bring kids Clean Water. If you feel led to support our Clean Water for Kids ministry please click here:

Women's Prison Babies' House

Women's Prison Babies' House

Women's Prison

The Prison Ministry is our first Mission Project and first mission experience. In 2000, we were called to women's prison in the city of Nigniy Tagil, one hundred miles north of Ekaterinburg. There is a Children's House in this prison for children who were born there. We have come to this prison to persuade mothers not to leave their children in orphanages after they are released, because the prison administration faced this problem and tried to solve it with no success for a long time. So, we started this mission and now we come to this prison almost every month and have Bible study with the mothers. We tell them about the Love of our Lord Jesus Christ, about His great Sacrifice on Golgotha and about the blessing they have from Him – their children. They just love to hear about that and about their new life as Christians.

After we started our ministry, several mothers were released and they took their children with them. The Love and Word of Jesus Christ totally changed their hearts and their lives. Inspired by these results, we continue our work here helping these mothers not only spiritually, but also by providing medicines, utilities, medical equipment, and different appliances for their babies. Due to very poor financing, the Children's House badly needs such things. Nowadays, there are 130 children, ages newborn to 3 years old. Seven of them are AIDS infected.

We do our best to provide these little “Gifts of God” with basic needs they lack. We raise money among people whose hearts are touched with God's love and compassion for these wonderful babies. If you feel led to support our prison ministry please click here:

Orphanage for Homeless Children

Orphanage for Homeless Children

Almost every week we come to the orphanage and tell them about Jesus, play with them, draw pictures, laugh and have a great time. In the Gospel of St. Matthew, Jesus says: "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the Kingdom belongs to such as these." When the children learn about the Bible, when they read Bible stories in wonderful Bible story books for children, when their innocent souls learn about Jesus and Jesus comes to them and gives them His wonderful love and joy, we are witnesses to the greatest wonder of all time - the coming of the Kingdom of Heaven.

There are 69 children in this orphanage now. They have shelter, some clothing, elementary medical care, and study in the nearby school. The children are so energetic that it takes a great effort to bring them back to the topic of the lesson. Each one has his or her own favorite Bible story and can speak about it endlessly. Just imagine them all speaking about the Bible at the same time! It is wonderful to witness such innocent joy about the Bible.
